Iva Gardner has been teaching music for over 62 years. Her former students serve as pianists, organists, soloists, ministers of music, teachers and gospel music performers throughout the southeast. This course of study is the successful method she has perfected through her years of teaching. It is designed for individuals who wish to improve their skills in playing hymns and gospel songs.
Iva began playing gospel music in church at the age of 9. She has performed for many years both as a soloist and as a singer and accompanist for gospel groups. She has recorded with several groups and in 1994 released two solo cassettes on which she sings and plays keyboards. She arranged the songs and some of the numbers are her own compositions. Her Christmas cantata, "The Christmas Story," was premiered in 1992 by the Liberty Assembly of God Choir in Millport, Alabama. Several of her songs have been recorded by other groups. "Standing On Holy Ground" (co-written with Clettus Miller) was recorded by The Cathedral Quartet on their "I ve Just Started Living" release.
Iva currently owns and operates a full-line music store and studio. She and her staff teach some 90 students each week and have a long list of people waiting for a place in the schedule.
She received a graduate degree in music from the University of Alabama, belongs to several professional organizations, holds certification in Music Teachers National Association, and serves as adjudicator for music auditions each year. She is active as an arts advocate and conducts seminars for music teachers and church musicians. Iva is listed in "Personalities of the South" and "American Keyboard Artists of 1989."
In 2004, the state Senate of Alabama passed a resolution commending Iva for her exemplary record of professional accomplishments as a musician.
She is excited about the prospect of helping people like you to reach new levels of piano performance, and invites your comments and suggestions. Write to her at the address below.
